1. Kindle DX web browser sucks, Kindle DX has been released before Kindle 3, so its web browser is very in the experimental phrase, Kindle DX might comes with a free 3G that allow you to use it anywhere in the world, but I think the purpose of a free 3G on Kindle DX is not for a free web browser, but it is for ebook buying from Amazon, unlike Kindle 3, Kindle 4 or Touch, Kindle DX web browser is in an old mobile web browser in PDA style !, which for me, you can use it for email checking for sometimes, but not use it as internet tablet like IPad or Kindle Fire.
2. Kindle DX processor is quite slow, you have to need a while for dictionary to appears on screen (but if you don’t need this feature, I guess, the speed is not bother you much), and five way navigator stick is not move on screen as fast as Kindle 4 navigator, Kindle DX is a little delay, and I’ve found that it is very hard to listen to MP3 and read ebook at the same time, it is barely possible, I think the hardware specification is not ready for that (that’s why Amazon called their web browser and MP3 “experimental”), if you think you will use Kindle DX as portable MP3 player and ebook reader at the same time, I would like to say, it may not as smooth as you think.
3. Kindle DX can not be used as a mobile ebook reader, due to its size and weight, I think it’s perfect to use at home, or leave it at your study room or your workplace, but not carry it with you all the time, and that’s the reason I have to buy Kindle 4 for, to use as a second ebook reader for portable purpose.
4. Battery life with 3G on is not so great, if you leave the 3G on all the time, I think Kindle DX can stay around 3-4 days, compare to other tablets and electronic devices, you may think it is quite long, but compare to the other Kindle in the family, this battery life of Kindle DX Black Friday discount price is too less.
5. No Wi-Fi, I don’t know why Amazon don’t put Wi-Fi in their Kindle DX, perhaps at that time (2 years ago), Wi-Fi technology is too expensive ! this can be bothering you a little bit, because sometime I’ve found my Kindle DX 3G signal is loss and I don’t know why to refresh it (there is a secret command for this), and due to that, I have to connect my Kindle DX via USB to transfer my purchased ebook, which is not so pleasant.
If you don’t mind about cons of Black Friday discount price Kindle DX above, here is what you’ll get, the Kindle DX’s pros :
1. Kindle DX display is best of its series, as Kindle 3, Kindle 4 and Kindle DX, I think Kindle DX has the best e-ink screen, you can say Kindle DX screen is like a real paper !, unlike the later models that come with cheaper price and lower quality e-ink display, DX display is a good for your eyes and it is the way that every Kindle e-ink screen should be !
2. Page turning buttons are great, but they may cause a problem with lefty since it placed on right size of the screen (you can rotate you screen to make page turning buttons be on your left), compare to other Kindles, I think the big buttons of page turning on Kindle DX are the best !
3. Read-to-Me or Text-to-Speech works as advertised ! as a none native english speaker like myself, Read-to-Me feature for Kindle DX helps me focus on the reading, it may not available for all ebook since it’s depend on the ebook right owner, but nearly 95% Kindle ebook are available for this feature.
4. Kindle DX Black Friday sale is available for international customers !, this is great, since the Touch 3G and Fire has been decided as U.S. resident only (due to the international law about Cloud computing), everyone can buy this ebook reader with its Black Friday sale price, Kindle DX may not as cheap as it advertised for international customer, since it has not yet been cover with shipping and tax (depend on your country import fee policy), but I am pretty sure it is cheaper than its previous release !
To conclude, should you buy this Kindle DX Black Friday sale price 259 USD ? if you can stand with its limitation which is quite out-of-date technology, what you will get is the best quality 9.7 inch e-ink screen ebook reader with a more affordable price, I don’t know that this Black Friday sale price will be long but I quite pretty sure it will be stay until Cyber Monday 2011, if you are thinking about getting one for your self or one for a Christmas present for your friends or your love one, there will be sometime to think about Kindle DX sale price.
